Dances around the World

In this Dance module pupils learn about dances from different cultures around the world. I will learn the history and significance of traditional dances from a range of cultures with a focus on New Zealand Maori this term. I will watch and perform some cultural dances.

During the course of lessons pupils will:

To learn and perform one chosen cultural dance with a partner or in a small group.
Be aware of and identify different dance styles.

To improve the consistency, quality and use of their skills.

 

Assessment objectives

Be able to identify what type of dance the “haka”  is and where it originates from.
Be able to stay in time with the music during a Maori stick dance.
Be able to stay in time with a partner during a Maori stick dance.
To learn how to make and use a “poi”.
Remember and repeat some cultural dances learnt.
