The Avenue School

A new special school for Brent, The Avenue, to open in September 2017.

A new special school for Brent, The Avenue, to open in September 2017.

The Avenue would be for up to 100 pupils aged 4 – 18 with complex needs. The school is being developed by the Headteachers of Manor School, The Village School, and Woodfield School with the support of Brent Council.

The Avenue is being proposed because:

• More special school places are required – Brent’s existing special schools are all full, despite recent expansions, and are unable to expand further. Another school is required to enable more Brent children to attend a special school close to home; and

• The Avenue would improve provision for pupils with complex needs that include autistic spectrum disorder (ASD), building upon practice in the existing special schools.

These three schools all provide for Brent children with statements of Special Educational Needs or Education, Health and Care Plans. All three schools are rated as ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted, are popular with their pupils and their families, and are at maximum capacity despite recent expansion. The vision for The Avenue is founded upon the beliefs and local commitment of these schools.
