Sixth Form Curriculum, Tuesday May 17th 2022
This was a virtual session on Tuesday 17th May at 10.30am about the 6th form curriculum for all Yr 11 pupil's parents who are staying on at Woodfield next year.
Skills Builder, Tuesday 10th May 2022
Skills Builder Homezone gave a presentation on the support they are able to provide to our pupils. Skills Builder Homezone help parents and carers to build their child's essential skills at home, . The aim of the session was to provide parents and carers with an overview of the following essentials skills to support their young person to succeed;
- Speaking
- Listening
- Creativity
- Leadership
- Teamwork
- Positive thinking
- Aiming high
- Problem solving
As a parent or carer, you are best placed to support your child to recognise all of the different places where they are developing their essential skills. Hobbies, interests, community connections and activities at home can all help to build the eight essential skills your child needs now and for their future success.

Featuring staff presenting information regarding the qualifications on offer at Woodfield (and beyond) as well as undertake a Q & A session with parents in the second half of the session.
College Information Session - Tuesday 9 November
An information session with representatives from local colleges regarding opportunities for pupils moving on from Woodfield. The information for city of Westminster College can be found on their website.
Key Stages 4 and 5 Curriculum - Tuesday 5 October
We have made lots of exciting changes to our curriculum embedding work experience, life skills and employability skills into the curriculum.
Communication Strategies at Home - Wednesday 30th June
A session with members of our SaLT team discussing strategies to assist communication at home.
Autism Awarenness - Tuesday 27th April
A virtual parents meeting help by our Autism lead, January O'Donnell. The session contained information about the condition and parents had the opportunity to join in a discussion.
RSE Virtual Parents Meeting-Tuesday 30th March
A virtual parents Meeting on RSE (Relationship and Sex Education) for KS3 and 4 parents on 30 of March, from 10:45- 11:45 a.m.
With the changes made to RSE policies since September 2020, it is important that we keep you informed regarding our statutory responsibilities and how we as a community can incorporate the requirements, keeping the needs of our students in mind.
The meeting helped us to shape and share our policy and curriculum.
Tuesday 16th March at 10.45am - Pathway 1 parents only
This was led by Ellie O'Connor, Speech and Language Therapy Assistant who shared information on Social Stories, a tool used to support individuals with ASD. She discussed how they are used and how they benefit pupils at Woodfield School.
Lateral Flow Testing Procedures
On Tuesday 9th March at 10:45, Deborah Beattie held an online session for parents demonstrating how to use the Covid home testing kits, and answered any other questions parents and carers had with regarding to the testing program at Woodfield.

Sixth Form Curriculum - Spring Term, 2021
Parents of year 11 pupils were invited to attend a virtual session to discuss the 6th form curriculum. Deborah Wood, Deputy Head, Suneeta Deorukhkar Acting Head of 6th form & Jane Porteous provided information on what is taught in year 12 and what the options for your child are.
PBS Session - Tuesday 9th February
The PBS team (Positive Behaviour Support) ran this parent session. With the current lockdown and half term fast approaching, the Positive Behaviour Team at Woodfield extends its services to parents to discuss possible opportunities where we can offer you support during these difficult times. Fahima, Gavin & Larisa will be providing information on dealing with behaviours at home so if you are struggling or need advice on how to manage difficult or challenging behaviour.
Virtual Parent Session - Tuesday 26 January
Sarah Isles, our Occupational Therapist ran a virtual parent session this week on Tuesday 26th January. Sarah covered the following;
- What are you and your child are struggling with on an everyday basis?
- Why is it a struggle?
- How sensory processing difficulties can present.
- Differentiating between sensory and behaviour.
- General strategies on how to try and manage difficulties with sensations.
Information session with Leadership Team - Tuesday 19th January
This session was fro members of the leadership team to update parents about our situation regarding the next few weeks, and answer any questions parents had.
Key Stage 5 RSE Information for Parents - Tuesday 2nd December
It was a pleasure to have some parents for the KS 5 Virtual meeting on RSE policy and curriculum. We value parental involvement in developing the curriculum and working together for the overall development of our students. This meeting enabled us to explain the new RSE Policy with changes as per the Government RSE: LGBT policy which is being rolled out across the school from this academic year.
Makaton - Tuesday 17th November
Our speech & language therapists hosted this session regarding Using Makaton. This session was about learning basic signs that you can use at home to help with communication. Teachers and support staff use Makaton at Woodfield to aid communication with your child.
